Town of Gibsonville – NC61/100 Water Improvements, 2023

The Town of Gibsonville has experienced significant growth in the previous 10 years, like many municipalities along the I-85/40 Corridor. Several commercial and residential developers were interested in parcels along the NC61/100 corridor near US-70. The Town was able to leverage the interest along NC61/100 in the form of developer agreements, which provided a local funding source that would facilitate water and sewer improvements along this route. Given our experience and understanding with the Town’s water system and needs, our engineering team modeled various watermain sizes that would not only serve this area but extend north from US-70 towards the Town, providing a looping effect to the existing water system. The engineering team determined that a 12-inch watermain and the installation of a metered connection with the City of Burlington would provide the Town with a cost-effective solution for their current and future development trends. Having accurate and complete field data was paramount for this project as there were many existing utilities along the project route that our engineering team would need to design around. Our field survey crew, using their 50 years of combined survey experience, provided our engineers with highly accurate data and descriptions of existing infrastructure that was invaluable during the design process. Due to AWCK’s company history and shared experiences, we knew that encountering rock was a possibility. The engineer and construction inspector worked tirelessly to minimize the rock that could be potentially encountered during the construction phase and kept meticulous records of areas with rock that provided for seamless quantifying when the contractor requested payment. The completion of this project significantly increased fire flow capabilities within the Town’s system and provided the Town with resiliency by establishing a second connection with the City of Burlington.
