The Lang St Pump Station is located near the Haw River within the Town of Haw River and is frequently subjected to flooding due to its elevation. The Town had previously contracted with AWCK to perform a site survey and determine the best method for providing this station with additional resiliency against flooding. Later, the Town successfully applied for grant funding through NC Division of Water Infrastructure to relocate the pump station, while increasing its pumping capacity due to a high peaking factor. Currently, the existing station uses 250 GPM pumps and frequently experiences 24 hour run times during periods of wet weather or major storms. The new station is being relocated by approximately 140 feet to an area that allows for cast in place walls, and extensive grading, which will elevate the existing wetwell more than 2.5’ above the 100-year flood elevation. Our team used FRIS modeling data as well as historical data and determined that this new location should keep the wetwell from being inundated, even when comparing it to the highest observed river gauge height. AWCK anticipates this project to be completed in the summer of 2026 and is providing surveying, design, construction inspections/administration and grant administration.
