The Town of Gibsonville has experienced significant growth in the previous 10 years, like many municipalities along the I-85/40 Corridor. Several commercial and residential developers were interested in parcels along the NC61/100 corridor near US-70. The Town was able to leverage the interest along NC61/100 in the form of developer agreements, which provided a local funding source that would facilitate water and sewer improvements along this route. Knowing this area has a high likelihood of high-density development, our team designed the project to include approximately 2,600 feet of 16” sewer main and two 8” connector lines totaling another 2,200 feet. Our team designed around two major natural challenges, floodplains and rock. Using our decades of experience and constant communication with potential developers, the project team was able to lessen the depth of the 8” sewer mains to reduce the amount of rock that would be encountered while providing adequate depth for future extensions. AWCK provided the surveying, easement acquisition, design and construction inspection/administration for this project, which finished ahead of schedule.
