Town of Elon – Cable Square Watermain Improvements, 2018

The Town of Elon experienced significant growth leading up to the recession of 2008, especially along the northern edge of Town. At that time, water was provided to several developments through a single waterline. As development slowed after 2008, the Town realized that water connections that would form a looping system would not be provided through development driven projects as previously intended. Recognizing the importance of providing looping within the water system, the Town selected AWCK to complete what is now known as the Cable Squar Watermain Loop. This project consisted of installing 1,250 feet of 8” watermain connecting two developer driven projects, while significantly increasing the fire flow abilities to both developments. The project had several design challenges as the design team had to design around overhead electrical transmission lines, underground gas transmission lines, a stream crossing and rock that was encountered during construction. Our surveying team greatly assisted with easement acquisition during this project as nearly all of this waterline crossed private property.
