Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation received CMAQ funding through the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization to construct the Stewart Creek Greenway. The project connects to the existing trailhead at State Street and provides connectivity to Martin Luther King Park as part of the uptown trail system of Stewart Creek and Irwin Creek Greenways. The project includes approximately 0.7 miles of new greenway from Coronet Way to State Street and includes 188 feet of boardwalk and a 181 feet prefabricated truss bridge. The project included asphalt and concrete greenway, drainage structures, and on-street shared use improvements. AWCK was selected to provide the construction administration and inspection for the project and to provide daily inspections, material testing, and project documentation to Mecklenburg County for their reimbursement from NCDOT for the Federal Funds. The greenway was completed in early 2025
